(More customer reviews)I second the praise others have left for nasal rinsing in general. I suffer from severe allergies, and this has helped orders of magnitude more than anything else. If your nose is so clogged that your antihistamine spray can't work properly, this is the product for you.
It also helps tremendously in the allergen avoidance department. I love being outdoors, but am highly allergic, so I do an extra rinse after a hike and it hardly has time to affect me, when I used to have a huge post-hike crash.
I want to add a word about NeilMed packets specifically. I bought a box of store brand refills thinking it couldn't be any different. I was completely wrong. The store brand was uncomfortable in my nose, and left a bad taste in my mouth that ruined the flavor of food all day for me. I threw out the rest of the box and bought NeilMed refills. They are very comfortable in my nose, and leave only a slight tear-like salty taste in my mouth, if any, which quickly dissipates and doesn't ruin the taste of food at all.

(More customer reviews)The packets are great to use along with this system of sinus rinsing. They are easier than mixing your own which I have done for the past year. It's a lot more expensive though. So to save money you could use the packets just for travel or when you are in a hurry. The correct proportions for do it yourself though are: 1/4 tsp. salt and 1/8 tsp. baking soda to 8 oz of water. That mixture will not burn nor will these handy premixed packets. I also love the squirt bottle system that Neilmed has. It does a good job and helps me have fewer sinus infections when I do it twice a day.

It compares very favorably with the traditional netti pot, since it does not require unnatural tilting of the head; it creates a more powerful stream since it is not limited to gravity power; outflow water will not flow onto clothing since the users head can easily lean over the sink.
It is important when using this product to keep the mouth open and say ahhh to avoid putting pressure on the ears.
I use this product regularly since I purchased it. This product is the best value for the money.

(More customer reviews)The Neilmed Sinus Rinse Kit is the best thing I've found to clear the congestion I get with allergies every winter. It seems like every year I get stopped up and then have trouble sleeping, lose my voice, and often wind up with a sinus infection - but this product has stopped all that. The funny thing is that this is supposed to be the worst year for allergies that we've had in a long time around here and I feel great!
The process, for me, is actually fairly uncomfortable. The first few times I felt like I was either going to drown or gag, and it's still not fun; but I can finish the rinse without too much pain now. If it hadn't been for the immediate results after the first time, I never would have done it again:).
I won't go into details about the process since it is kind of gross, but I will say that it definitely works. For me, it works best to do the rinse an hour or two before going to bed - then my congestion stays cleared through the night and I still feel great in the morning. If I try to rinse after I've already started to clog up, then it sometimes requires two bottles and still doesn't seem quite as effective. I'm still taking Claritin every day to help with the other allergy symptoms - but this sinus rinse is making it possible for me to sleep.
If you have problems with congestion from allergies, I highly recommend this product.

(More customer reviews)Used for 2 weeks. Can't use it if you have totally blocked sinus but can be used if you feel cold or allergies coming and you have some airflow. Strange to use at first. Solution comes in through one nostril, rinses sinus cavity, goes out the other nostril. Can see on youtube people demonstrating its use. Little kids don't seem to have problems. Measured out 8 oz. distilled water, microwave 15 seconds, and swirled the water for a few seconds to even the temperature out. Used the included packets and the formula works well. You can make your own but be sure to use pure salt (kosher or pickle) instead of table salt. To make an isotonic (equal to body salinity) solution, use about 1/4 tsp salt, tiny pinch of baking soda, 8 oz of lukewarm distilled water. People on the Internet use a lot of different recipes but this one works for me.

The package insert with my Ancient Secrets brand neti pot states that "non-iodized table salt is the best source of the salt for mixing the saline solution."
You need 1/4 teaspoon, dissolved in warm water, for each use.
Buy this and you are paying 69 cents an ounce for plain old NaCl.
I bought a 14.5-ounce countainer of high-end gourmet natural table salt -- Cerulean Seas refined sea salt, fine crystals, additive-free and iodine-free -- for $1.59 at Whole Foods Market. It's food grade and pure, and costs less than 11 cents an ounce.
This Himalayan Institute salt says it's "pharmaceutical grade." The Cerulean Seas is "food grade." The quality standards are the same, and if anything, the food grade is purer.
The question is, do you want to pay 69 cents or 11 cents?
Save your money.

(More customer reviews)Truthfully I was pretty excited to try this out. Several people I know have recommended a neti pot or other nasal irrigation product for my sinus problems, but I hadn't purchased anything yet.
The directions for use were somewhat lacking with this product, but seeing as how there were only 2 parts it was easy enough to figure out. One word of warning: When you put the top on the bottle, don't press down to hard as this is what releases the fluid from the bottle. I made the mistake of thinking I needed to snap the top on and got sprayed.
As for my use and results? The first time I decided to try it out in the shower because I was afraid of making a mess. I irrigated both sides and although strange it wasn't uncomfortable or as messy as I expected. The following day I just did it over the sink, which was a bit easier. The results were pretty much unnoticeable for me. My nose felt somewhat clearer, but really no different than blowing my nose or breathing in some steam.
I can't imagine buying this in the future. Maybe I'll give the neti pot a try and see if that is any better. At least with that I've been told it's refillable, something this isn't and for the price you pay it should be.

I used my girlfriend's when I was sick and saw the light, so I sought out to buy one for myself. I got this one because it is the cheapest out there and it is plastic and I tend to drop things in the shower. I agree with the other reviewer that it's overpriced for a piece of molded plastic, and it will probably break right down the molded seam if I drop it, but it has been amazingly effective. Just a half teaspoon of sea salt in warm water each morning and I can breathe better and my sinus area is moisturized. Don't bother buying fancy neti solutions - simple course-ground sea salt is all you need.

(More customer reviews)Though this neti pot came exactly as shown in the pictures at Amazon, you should know 2 things before you put down your money on it: the molded plastic is as cheap and flimsy as you can imagine, with an obnoxious coarse seam running through the entire neti pot. The whole thing is very light, cheap and tacky, like something you'd win as a booby prize at a carnival. Secondly, when I went to use it I actually cut my nose a bit because the manufacturer hadn't even bothered to sand down the sharp edges from the molding process. If the company insists on charging $12+ for this item, why not take the effort and make it with a more substantial amount of plastic and then also sand the edges?
Bottom line, it's a very good design but the company that sells it must be laughing all the way to the bank on this one. Maybe 3 cents worth of plastic.
oh, and they give you a plastic spoon for the salt (gee thanks)

(More customer reviews)I am preparing for a Septoplasty and Turbinate reduction surgery. I was told ahead of time that having a rinsing kit was essential for easing some of the "crusties" caused from the surgery and the splints. As I prepare for my surgery, I have been using the wash for the first time in my life. What a soothing (albeit strange at first experience). My allergist recommended this for me a long time ago -- but embarrassingly, I was a little scared to shoot water up my nose thinking that it would feel akin to pool water, etc. Well, it took just a couple squirts (and a little psyching) to get over it. I am glad I did.
I chose this manual method over the machines because I know I can control the flow more easily. It was also substantially cheaper.
My surgery is scheduled for 1/15/09 and I know that I will be ready to do the rinses. I'm glad I bought this kit. It was worth it. :)

(More customer reviews)Initially, I thought this would be easier to use than my Neti Pot and provide more convenience. I figured I would be able to use it in the shower, no bending my neck and so on, as promoted by the inventor. However, after using both, I actually prefer the Neti Pot!
It is way easier to add salt to the Neti pot. On the other hand, it is almost mandatory to purchase the specifically designed packets of salt (an extra expense) that fit narrow opening of the Nasopure bottle. Whereas, Neti pots provide a wide opening to add plain old sea salt, done. I also get a better nostril seal with a Neti Pot, as oppose to the Nasopure. Finally, when rinsing with the Nasopure if one put to much pressure on the valve it will close, and that sucks.

(More customer reviews)Before buying this neti pot, I had owned a different one for about a year & a half and enjoyed the benefit. When I gave that one to my young son, I purchased this lil' model as a replacement.
Sadly, this unit doesn't work nearly as well for me as my former one. The design is nifty (arched snout for increased water pressure).
But, a critical drawback is the under-sized spout. First time a product I bought ever made my nose seem far too big! More importantly, this has caused me to have to "creatively accessorize" the spout by padding it with foam tape & a rubber band.
Not good, in my opinion.
